The principal reserves the right to call the parents and request a change of clothing if what their child is wearing is not acceptable.
: The school uniform helps us distinguish our students as St. James Catholic School students. It conveys our pride in our school and parish, and our desire to live in unity and in community with all our brothers and sisters n Christ. Students should arrive on campus in uniform and leave campus in uniform. Exceptions are made for “Spirit Day” and or other special event days
. It is a parental responsibility to make sure the child is in uniform each day.
If your child is not in the proper uniform, you will be called to bring the proper uniform.
: Faculty and staff members have the responsibility and authority to correct students who are in violation of the uniform policy. A student who believes that something is permitted within the policy will cheerfully obey the teacher or staff member who calls it into question, but may appeal to the administration. Disrespectful or frivolous appeals will be met with appropriate consequences.
Students are allowed to wear non-uniform clothing. However, parents should use discretion in selecting appropriate attire for a Christian environment. Since they participate in a lot of outdoor play, it is important that their shoes have rubber soles. Cowboy boots, and dress shoes are inappropriate unless there is a dress-up day designated by the teacher. Light-up shoes are not appropriate for Fridays since that is when we celebrate mass in church. Girls should were shorts under their dresses.
5K to 8th Formal Mass Day Uniform (and other days specified by the principal):
- Girls-Short sleeve overblouse with pointed convertible collar, navy plaid jumper/skirt, navy or plaid tie, navy cardigan sweater with the school insignia.
- Boys-White oxford shirt, plaid tie, belt, khaki pants, navy cardigan with the school insignia.
Sweaters are required to be at school November through March and will always be worn to Mass during these months. Ties will be worn to Mass by all students and throughout the day by both boys and girls in grades 6-8.
For 2016-2017, the main components of the Formal Uniform must be purchased from Parker School Uniforms with the exception of the boys’ white oxford cloth shirts and boys’ belts. (These may be purchased anywhere).
The uniform will be supplied by Parker Uniform Company and can be viewed online now and purchased online
or at the company’s retail location in San Antonio (15909 San Pedro Ave).
5K to 8th Daily Uniform:
All students in 5K - 8th grade must wear a dark navy blue polo and khaki bottoms. The navy polo needs to have the St. James patch.
Skirts and jumpers
for girls need to be no shorter than the top of the knee. Girls need to wear modesty shorts under their skirts/jumpers.
Skorts and shorts
should be no shorter than two inches above the knee.
Shoes for boys
should be solid black, all leather, non-scuff, low cut tennis shoes with matching black laces.
Shoes for girls
should be solid white, all leather, non-scuff, low cut tennis shoes with matching laces. Younger students may have Velcro fasteners on their school shoes. Some brands that make solid white or black tennis (athletic) shoes are New Balance, Sketchers, and Reebok. shoes, may be worn on Opt-Out Day; however, students will be required to switch into sneakers for PE.
: for both boys and girls need to be solid white crew socks, or girls may also wear solid white or navy, opaque knee socks. Ankle socks, golf socks, “no-show” socks, and socks with designs or of other colors are
: Solid black, brown, or khaki belts must be worn with any bottoms that have belt loops. No decorative buckles.
Appropriate haircuts that do not obstruct the student’s vision are permittted. No unnatural hair colors, colored extensions, distracting haircuts with lines/carvings, mohawks, etc. are allowed. Boys must keep their hair neatly trimmed and above the collar and ears. Boys are to be clean shaven.
PE UNIFORMS: PE uniforms are NOT required. Students will wear their school uniforms to PE. If girls have on skirts or jumpers, then they shall remove these and wear the modesty shorts they have on underneath their skirts/jumpers. They will put these back on when PE is over. The exception is for students in grades 6-8 who have PE last period of the day. They may quickly change to dark, appropriate length shorts/athletic shorts, a SJS t-shirt, and tennis shoes so that they are ready for athletics after school.
